Grey Street

Restaurant Conversion

This project brought together two separate units to form a healthy eatery on Newcastle’s prestigious Grey Street, with frontages to Grey Street and the historic Central Arcade. Both buildings are Grade II* listed, requiring a highly sensitive design and consent strategy to protect the architectural integrity of one of Europe’s most significant streetscapes.

Working within the constraints of listed building and planning approvals, the conversion was delivered to a tight programme to ensure the restaurant could open in time for the peak Christmas trading period.

The interior concept reflects the ethos of clean, healthy eating by stripping back the space to reveal the original structure, creating a minimalist yet welcoming environment. Historic fabric is celebrated rather than concealed, allowing period features to sit comfortably alongside a contemporary dining experience — resulting in a calm, inclusive space that blends heritage character with modern hospitality.
