Structural alterations, Interior Design and Contract Administration
The restoration of the historic cottage in the center of Corbridge, Northumberland, combines traditional charm with modern living. A sympathetic approach was taken to the front elevation, where the UPVC glazing was replaced with timber sash windows, restoring the cottage’s original character and enhancing its contribution to the surrounding conservation area.

To the rear, a more contemporary transformation was undertaken, embracing the cottage’s elevated aspect and stunning views over the Tyne Valley and river. Slim frame glass sliding doors were installed across the entire rear façade, creating a seamless floor-to-ceiling connection between the interior and the landscape. This modern feature floods the space with natural light and provides uninterrupted panoramic views.

Inside, the layout was reconfigured to embrace open-plan living, making the cottage feel larger and more versatile, perfect for the demands of contemporary lifestyles. The combination of preserving the building’s historic front while opening up the rear to contemporary design not only maximizes the spectacular viewpoint but also provides a modern, light-filled living experience.
